MALAWI JUSTICE INNOVATORS WORKSHOP

On 17th May 2023, BarefootLaw, in partnership with The Gender and Justice Unit, called for community justice innovators in Malawi to apply and be recognized for their impactful work. Forty (40) participants submitted their presentations, and through a thorough vetting process, four (4) of these were selected for a voting exercise open to all Malawians.

BarefootLaw, held a workshop to present the most innovative grassroots innovators it discovered during its search. The event started off with a prayer and a round of introductions from all the people in attendance. This was followed by welcome remarks and an introduction of the project from Barefoot law that elaborated the work done by the organization and discussed the objectives of the project.

In  Sub Saharan Africa, where access to legal services is limited despite a growing population, innovative approaches are essential. Legal services extend beyond courtroom matters to encompass legal education and empowerment before disputes arise. With only a small number of licensed attorneys serving a large population, enhancing accessibility to quality legal services is crucial for empowering individuals to prevent or resolve legal issues.
